Network tools
Monitor, track and understand your connection to our network with our collection of network tools.
Weathermap
The weathermap is a live representation of peak data traffic flows on the network. The data used in the weathermap is the same data that is used in the management and monitoring of the network and is based on a 1 minute average polling cycle.
Detailed traffic information between members can be accessed by hovering over or clicking on a node or link on the map.
The weathermap is maintained by the WAND group at the University of Waikato.
NOC tools for network operators
The Network Operations Centre service features a suite of open source tools to provide member network operators with more visibility of the network. These tools can help you to troubleshoot and measure network performance. (These tools are only accessible to REANNZ members).
Available tools include:
- Network diagnostic tool
- Router proxy
- Multicast beacon
Access tools for our network users
If you’re new to our network, here are some simple tools you can use to find out whether the network is available to you and where we can take you.
Are You On The Network tester
The Are you on the network tester will tell you whether you can use the network from your desktop computer. You will receive one of two messages:
- 'Great news - you're on KAREN'
- 'Oops - you're not on KAREN'. If you reach this page, talk to your Information Technology Services (ITS) group about access
Please note: This tool is in beta form.
Otago University's KAREN tester
The Otago University KAREN tester will tell you whether the resource you want or person you're trying to reach is available over the network (i.e. on-net)
Please note, this test is performed from the perspective of a user at Otago University and may not always reflect the experience of other users.
AARNet on-net/off-net tool
The AARNet on-net/off-net tool tests whether the resource or person you want to reach is available over the network. AARNet is the Australian equivalent of our network. Please note that this is based on the AARNet view of the research and education destinations, which will not always be aligned with ours.
