MAE Lite

MAE Lite enables members to connect their smaller or remote research sites to REANNZ’s high speed network, at a significantly lower cost, providing an effective solution for research and science grade connectivity for difficult to connect locations.

While largely similar to the Managed Access and Edge (MAE) offering, MAE Lite does not require dedicated dark fibre which can be difficult to access in remote locations.

MAE Lite enables connectivity and collaboration at a scale that was not previously available, expensive or difficult to acquire.

MAE Lite - Hyperfibre

This offers the same benefits for members as MAE Lite but at up to four times the speed (1 vs 4 Gbps). Below are the answers to some common questions.

Is MAE Lite - Hyperfibre available at every location?  
We have good national coverage – email the engagement team to confirm availability on engagement@reannz.co.nz. Some sites may require extra build fees if they are outside the coverage zones.

What are the speed differences between MAE Lite and MAE Lite - Hyperfibre?
Standard MAE Lite provides symmetric speeds of up to 1/1 Gbps. Hyperfibre can provide a range of faster options. Currently we offer 2/2 Gbps and 4/4 Gbps options as these are most readily available nationwide.

If I already have MAE Lite can I upgrade to Hyperfibre?
In most cases yes, however we will still need to check if it's supported in your local area. To upgrade to Hyperfibre you will need a new managed edge device. Contact your engagement team and we can arrange a technician to install and discuss technical requirements.
