News and Events DC Connect - Data Centre and direct connectivity services Data Centre Connect (DC Connect) is a service that REANNZ can provide at selected Data Centre sites around the country, allowing for high bandwidth, cost effective connectivity into the REANNZ Network. This is an alternative option to our Managed Access and Edge service that requires a dedicated Fibre from the Data Centre to the nearest REANNZ PoP. This service uses preinstalled equipment and diverse connectivity at the Data Centre, bringing the edge of the REANNZ Network into the facility which allows us to deliver new services quickly and ensure high uptime and availability. DC Connect uses shared REANNZ infrastructure to then connect into the wider REANNZ Network. We are currently able to provide multiple 10G services with full diversity to meet your bandwidth requirements and have this service deployed into the following Data Centres, with more likely to follow in the future: Auckland - Orbit Datacom Data Centre Hamilton - Kapua Datacom Data Centre Christchurch - CCL Data Centre (coming soon for secondary only, CCL is the current CHC PoP) Revera Trentham (Wellington) and Takanini (Auckland) has limited presence (Services are still available in other Data Centre’s around the country. The Data Centre’s listed above are both sites that have seen particular growth) We are always interested to hear from our membership on where they would like us to establish a presence, get in touch with us at help@reannz.co.nz if you have particular locations of interest and would like to know more about where this service can be offered.Another way that we are working to support member's access to the network and use of services is through direct connectivity and partnership with other providers. REANNZ and Microsoft have established an agreement that provides direct connectivity into the Microsoft network, enabling each organisation to better support our shared research community.Microsoft’s services are used widely and often support the transfer, storage and processing of research data. The partnership agreement includes a direct connection into Microsoft’s onshore data centre when it is launched in New Zealand. This will create a foundation to set up enhancements to the services that Microsoft currently offer, simplifying the process for members to continue to consume the services that they have in place, and the flexibility to enhance these services as needed to support their teams. The nature of research and business IT continues to evolve with the accelerated adoption of Cloud services to satisfy the needs of both business operations and research, including those offered by Microsoft. The agreement with Microsoft is designed to make the use of their services as simple as possible for our member organisations. If you have any questions for the team or would like to know more about connectivity options including into Microsoft or other Cloud service providers, please get in touch at help@reannz.co.nz.
