REANNZ’s Board is delighted to announce the appointment of Gerrit Bahlman as the Acting Chief Executive, effective from 23 November 2018 while Chief Executive Nicole Ferguson is on parental leave. Gerrit brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of specialist research and education networks. He is currently the Chair of the Asia Pacific Advanced Network (APAN) which is the regional federation of national research and education networks. We had the pleasure of working closely with Gerrit in planning and hosting the APAN46 conference in Auckland in August.Gerrit has recently returned to New Zealand from Hong Kong where he was the Director of Information Technology at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, which is ranked 27th in the QS Asian University Rankings and 106th in the QS World University Rankings.He is well known within New Zealand following roles within the tertiary and research sectors, including CIO at Massey University, and with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.We look forward to Gerrit joining us in mid-October for a handover period, before officially taking on the role of Acting Chief Executive from 23 November 2018 until 31 May 2019.Gerrit is looking forward to renewing acquaintances and meeting new members and stakeholders during this time, and will continue the work programmes already well underway with our members, MBIE and other key stakeholders.
